Finance: Capital Markets: CFO South Africa

A large South African investment bank, recently been acquired by one of our main clients, needed to parachute in a CFO who could affect cultural change within the finance functions, generate synergies with group finance and streamline operating procedures. In order to have the gravitas to deliver results, they required someone from a major investment bank with experience of managing 200 plus people. The candidate also needed a strong understanding of derivatives, had to be a South African national and be prepared to relocate to Johannesburg.

After a comprehensive global search, we found three candidates who fit this specific criteria - two based in London and one in New York. They were all being well rewarded in their current roles and were highly regarded within their existing organisations. Through dogged persistence, all three were persuaded to enter into discussions about the role after  which a clear favourite emerged. The resulting interview process lasted a number of months due to the geographic difficulties of interviewing in South Africa combined with the busy schedules of the board level decision makers. After a challenging negotiation process our Client secured the candidate who relocated with his family back to South Africa.

Both client and candidate are very happy.
